How To Paint Your Safari Rack

So you want to paint your Safari Rack black because you think it will look cool or because you want to be different. Whatever the reason, here is a step by step instruction on how to do it right.

What you will need:

  1. Dust mask
  2. 2 cans of Rust-Oleun High Performance Enamel (Flat Black 7578) (price approximatel $6 each)
  3. 1 Can of Rust-Oleun PrimerĀ  ($6)
  4. A vented location
  5. Fine Grit Sand Paper (220 gritt)
  6. Rubbin Alcohol

Preparation

  1. Sand the rack lightly with 220 grit sandpaper. This will help the paiint adhere better to the metal. This unfortunately will also remove some of the protection provided by galvanization.
  2. Clean the rack with Rubbin Alcohol and let it dry fo about 15 minutes
  3. Spray a very light coat of primer and then let it dry completely.
  4. Spray another light coat of primer and let it dry completely TIP: Keep the spray can about 10 inches from the rack surface. Use nice even strokes.
  5. Spray a light coat of flat black paint and wait to dry
  6. Repeat step 5 above 3 to 4 more times or as desired.
